New Year, New Query: A Workshop to Get You Ready

December 16, 2025 by Eric Smith

With the New Year approaching and writers eager to get querying, I wanted to run another workshop to help polish up those pitch letters. I have a great time every time I do these, and honestly, these help me fund the events I throw here in Philadelphia.

I help you, you help me, everyone wins here.

That said, keep an eye out, we’ve got some really great industry events happening in February and April that will be free, in-person, and featuring colleagues from out of town.

So! Onto this webinar.

Join me for a three class webinar on getting your query letter ready to go. Kicking off on January 12th, we’ll spend our time talking about what makes a great query, what makes amazing opening pages, and doing some live workshopping together. By the end, you’ll be walking away with a polished pitch packet you can be sure of.

January 12th, 8PM EST: In our first class, we will cover the query letter basics. What makes a good query? What makes it stand out? What are the most common mistakes? We’ll chat about fiction and non-fiction query letters, and for those of you feeling brave, we might even critique a few, live, time allotting.

January 26th, 8PM EST: In our second session, we’ll talk about opening pages. Those dreaded open ten pages that agents and editors ask for pasted or attached (read submission guidelines!) in an email? We’ll have a conversation about what makes “good” opening pages. This is a safe space for prologues, friends.

February 9th, 8PM EST: For our final session, we’ll have an AMA with other agent pals, because this is a subjective business, and you should get more viewpoints than just mine. We’ll also talk about researching agents and submission tactics.

Every attendee will get their query letter and first ten pages critiqued and edited by me by the end of the workshop. And all sessions will be recorded and available for you to watch for up to a month after we wrap up.

Registration is just $100 and you can sign up here. If the price point is an issue, as always, being accessible is important to me, so please don’t hesitate to drop me an email. I’ll make a big ol’ register here button below too:
